BBS has been building wheels in Schiltach since 1970. The company was started by two amateur racers chasing unsprung weight, and fifty years later the same forging process that supplies Porsche and BMW as original equipment produces the wheels you can buy off the shelf. The RI-A sits in the Forged Line at the top of that range.

One-piece die-forged is the part that matters. A cast wheel is poured. A flow-formed wheel is spun. A forged wheel starts as a billet of 6000-series aluminium and is die-forged under up to 18 million pounds of pressure, which reorganises the grain structure of the metal. The result is lighter and stiffer than cast can manage at the same strength. Unsprung mass is the most useful weight you can take off a car, because the suspension then controls the wheel instead of fighting it.

BBS mills the inside of the spoke area using a patented process, guided by FEM analysis, so material comes out only where it carries no load. The spokes are reinforced with optimised load paths, and the bead seat is knurled to stop the tyre slipping on the rim under hard braking or acceleration.

This wheel is finished in Diamond Silver.
